Track me

Track me sends a live link to family or friends. Whoever opens it sees where you are on a map, with your speed, distance, moving time and phone battery - in any browser, with no app or account. The link stops at the time you pick, when the ride ends, or when you stop it.

  1. Open Menu > Track me.
  2. Choose how long: 1 H, 3 H, 6 H, UNTIL END (of the ride), or CUSTOM (a quarter of an hour to 24 hours).
  3. Tap SHARE LIVE LINK. Your phone's share menu opens - pick WhatsApp, SMS, email or any app, and the person.

Lost the message? SEND LINK AGAIN shares the same link. STOP SHARING ends it at once.

What the watcher sees

  • A map with your position, which glides as new positions arrive, and the line you have ridden.
  • Your speed, distance, moving time and phone battery.
  • "Updated 5 s ago" - how fresh the position is. It turns orange when there has been no update for two minutes, which usually means no signal.
  • Buttons to re-centre on you, turn the map, and zoom.

When the link ends, the page says it has expired.

Good to know

  • Anyone with the link can watch, including where the ride starts and ends. Send it only to people you want watching.
  • No signal: points wait on the phone and go when the signal returns.
  • Data: the phone sends small batches of positions while sharing; it uses little mobile data.
  • When the link ends, the positions it held are deleted from the server.

Questions

Does the person watching need an app or an account?

No. The link opens in any browser - WhatsApp's own browser, any phone or a computer.

Do I need a RideHero account to use Track me?

No. Track me works without signing in.

When does the link stop working?

At the time you pick, when the ride ends, or when you press STOP SHARING - whichever comes first. A link set to last until the ride ends stops after 12 hours at most.

What if I lose signal?

Your points wait on the phone and are sent when the signal returns. The watcher sees how long ago the last update was.
