RideHero privacy policy

Last updated 10 October 2026.

RideHero is a bike computer for your phone, with an optional account for backup, a web dashboard, training plans and coaching. It is a personal tool: there is no public feed, no advertising, and your data is not sold or shared for marketing.

Who we are

RideHero is published by GotYou Telematics (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (registration 2012/177045/07), Route 21 Business Park, 19 Regency Drive, Centurion, 0178, South Africa. We are responsible for your personal information in RideHero. For anything about your privacy, write to admin@gotyou.co.za.

Without an account, your rides stay on your phone

You can use RideHero without an account. Then everything below stays on your phone and is not sent to us:

  • your position (GPS) while a ride is recording, and the ride files made from it;
  • readings from Bluetooth sensors you pair - heart rate, cadence, power;
  • your rider details (weight, height, heart-rate and power thresholds) and your bikes, including frame serial numbers;
  • how hard you rated each ride, your climbs and your settings.

RideHero asks for location permission to show you on the map and record rides, and Bluetooth permission to use sensors. While a ride is recording, the app keeps recording with the screen off, which is why it shows a notification then.

If you create an account

WhatWhy
Your email addressTo sign you in (we email a one-time code), and so a coach you invite can find you.
Finished rides: the ride file (route, times, altitude, and sensor readings if you used sensors) and its summary (distance, time, climbing, your effort rating, the bike, and your weight and the bike's weight on that day)Backup, restoring rides to a new phone, and everything the dashboard shows: climbs, power estimates, fitness and training.
Your rider details and bikes - never frame serial numbers, which stay on your phoneSo your phone and the dashboard show the same details.
Your training: events, when you can ride, your plan and changes to it, your time zoneTo build your plan, adjust it to what you ride, and show it on your phone.
A sign-in session (we keep only a scrambled form of it)To keep you signed in.

We use this information because you ask us to: it is how the features you chose work (the performance of our agreement with you). Your ride and heart-rate data can reveal something about your health; we use it only to show it back to you, and to a coach only if you allow it.

Track me (live location)

When you start Track me, your position, speed, distance and battery level go to our server every few seconds, and anyone with the link you send can see them until sharing ends - when you stop it, when the ride ends, or at the time you chose. Everything from that share is deleted when it ends. To stop misuse, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of the network address that created a share, only for counting how many shares one network makes in an hour; old entries are removed as new shares are made.

Coaches

A coach sees your data only if you invite or accept them. You choose what they may do: see your rides, climbs and training, or also plan for you. Your weight and height are hidden from a coach unless you choose to share them. Every change a coach makes to your plan is marked with their name, and you can undo it. You can remove a coach at any time, and their access ends at once.

Services we use

  • Cloudflare hosts our servers, database and ride storage. Your account data is stored in Cloudflare's Western Europe region. If you live elsewhere - South Africa, for example - your data is transferred there.
  • Map tiles come from MapsForDevs. Your phone requests the map around you, so the map server sees your network address and the area on the map.
  • Weather comes from MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). Our server asks for the weather at the centre of the area you are in (a square about 11 km across), not your exact position; MET Norway sees our server, not you or your network address.
  • Place search: the words you type to find a place go from our server to a geocoding service. Nothing that identifies you goes with them.
  • Turns on a loaded route: to find the turns, our server sends the route's points to MapsForDevs' routing service. Nothing that identifies you goes with them.
  • Google Play Integrity: the app asks Google to confirm it is the genuine app before the map service accepts it. Google receives information about your device and the app for this check, under Google's own privacy policy.
  • WhatsApp or another app you pick, when you share a Track me link - the link goes where you send it.

RideHero contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting libraries. We do not use your data to train artificial intelligence.

The ridehero.app website pages count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not track you across sites. The dashboard and live-tracking pages are not counted.

How long we keep it

Your account data is kept until you delete it. When you delete your account (Settings, then Delete account), everything we hold about you - rides, details, training, climbs, coaching links - is deleted at once. Our hosting provider keeps a database history for recovery of up to 30 days, after which deleted data is gone from that too. Rides on your phone stay on your phone until you delete them there.

Your rights

You can see and download everything we hold about you (Settings, then Export everything), correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, and object to how we use it; the export is a file you can take to another service. For anything you cannot do in the app, write to admin@gotyou.co.za. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the data protection authority where you live - in South Africa the Information Regulator, in the European Union your national data protection authority, in the United Kingdom the Information Commissioner's Office.

Security

Everything between the app, the dashboard and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sign-in codes and sessions are stored only in scrambled form; the dashboard's sign-in cookie cannot be read by page scripts. Coaches reach your data only through checks on every request.

Children

RideHero is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly hold data about anyone younger; if you believe we do, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and say what changed.

10 October 2026: added the website's visit counting (Cloudflare Web Analytics, no cookies).
